took some out of town guests there last night, it was terrible, very embarassing after how we talked it up. pretty sure they have a new chef, because it was like eating at a different place, even the pizza was different. arrabiata sauce was pure salt, meat balls were really bad, the artichoke pasta special was an absolute joke.....as was the goofy italian waiter we had who said he had it for lunch, and it was "incredible". luigi, if that's incredible to you, find a new profession. last time for me at this place, i'll stick with vitorio's. i have to add.....it's really hard to find good food in the burbs, really hard.

Have been patronizing this place for 20 years. Great authentic food, good service, a family favorite.

This place has some good character and authentic staff. My mother even complained that she couldn't understand the waiter! However, I ordered the pasta carbonara and it was a bit dry. Overall, I enjoyed my time and my parents both enjoyed their dishes.

It was alright. It was expensive, for small portions. Like I ordered pear juice and it came it came in a small, five inch bottle. The service was good, and the food was OK, and if you're looking for a good place to meet up and chat, this is the place to go.

Real serious Italian...food, staff, chefs, and owners that is. Even my relatives from there say so. Interior is larger than the tiny storefront suggests. Would recommend to anyone for THE place to go in Glen Ellyn..Marinella taking the finer dining spot amongst others. (Santa Fe, Barone's, and Alfie's) Based on other reviews I'll have to try the pizza sometime.

Cutting to the chase, the service was horrible. Our waiter never checked on us once during dinner, and acted like our very existence was pissing him off. There's no excuse to ever treat a paying customer that way, but especially when people are being polite with you. Utter nonsense. The food was a shame. It had promise, but failed. The pasta was poorly drained, and the eggplant parm was complete mush. Their sauce is delicious, so I know it can be good, but alas, fell way short.

I love the food, the service and the ambiance!!! Tastes like my Sicilian grandmother's food! If you don't like the owner, it's because he's FROM ITALY! In Europe, they treat you as though you've entered their house, but if you come into their "house" and act rudely, they'll act rudely right back and send you packing! If you have an issue, BE NICE, SEND IT BACK AND CALMLY EXPRESS HOW THEY CAN MAKE IT RIGHT! Don't act like a "GlenEllynite!" If you don't like this place, you won't like Europe so stay home.

No stars because we left before sampling the cuisine. This was due to the condescending manner and outright rudeness of the owner. We had reservations and objected to being seated next to a very noisy large party. This is what triggered the tirade by the owner. I might add the time was 5:30PM and nowhere near full at that early hour. I guess business is so robust that he can be inhospitable to new customers destroying the potential for repeat business.

First time to another one of glen ellyn's Italian restaurants. We sat outside which was very pleasant. The owner and waiter were good hosts and quick to refill our drinks. The food took a bit of time to come out but the bread and olive oil along with a salad held us over. As far as the food it's no culinary master piece but if your looking for a affordable nice night out with a old school Italian meal this is the place!

Were there for a Saturday night dinner. So were 25-30 teens from a dance at a local HS. The teens were all well dressed and well behaved. The staff were busy but we still got good service. So why only 2 stars? The food was average but the bus staff needs some training on sanitation practices. The busser handled the working end of the silverware as he reset a table. When he cleared the glasses from another table, he put his fingers inside the glasses. I'll let you figure out the bacteria transfer trail. My wife had the chicken vessuvio. The menu said a whole chicken. What came was half a chicken. The chicken was cooked OK but the dish had an unusual flavor. The potatoes were mush. I had the veal marsala. The veal was tender but the sauce was thin and watery. I thought the portion was a little small. We might have given this place 3 stars if it weren't for the problem with the sanitation practices. We probably won't be back.

One of the last great old school Italian places around. It's not hard to find a decent Italian restaurant, Glenn Ellyn alone has a few. This place, however, will be special for anyone who grew up in an Italian family, and remembers the old school places your grandparents would always take you as a kid. The menu is neither fancy, nor trendy, but everything on it is made just like you remember, and amazing. You can always tell a good Italian place by the sauce. You know how sometimes the marinara can be dark, somewhat stale tasting and too chunky? Not here. The sauce is fresh, and almost bright with specs of fresh basil. The veal is phenomenal, and the house salad dressing is fantastic as well. Great place to enjoy a great meal with family and close friends. Sure, sometimes we feel like the more trendy Fire and Wine, but when we want more of a quiet, old school approach to Italian, this is where it's at. Vic's is gone, and so is Sergino Tratorria. Please do what you can to keep this fantastic gem open and thriving for years to come.

Marinella's was a pretty good restaurant for a traditional Italian place in the suburbs. They graciously accommodated our large group, but called and told us that we should come at 8:30 instead of 8 for our reservation... needless to say, we were pretty hungry and most of the group arrived early.... no surprise that our table was empty... we could have kept 8 PM! I had an eggplant dish. The food was decent, but I'm not big fan of the very under-seasoned sauce - its like just plain tomato sauce (I prefer garlic, etc). My boyfriend had the special dish - a braciole. It was decent, but didn't taste anything like the home made we had the day before. Decent wine that wasn't too overpriced and great service. Overall a nice night. Worth returning once a year!

I went here for drinks on a first date and the experience was equally as bad as the date turned out. We had an appetizer which was okay but it was smear closing time and the very rude owner/manager sat in the corner waiting for us to leave. Finally the guy just made us leave and wasn't very friendly about it. Needless to say, I will never return or recommend the location

My husband and I went here for "date night," leaving the kids to fend for themselves. It was a beautiful summer evening (around 7:30) and we were seated on the patio, which was lovely. The interior of the restaurant was deserted--the decor was like walking into your grandmother's house. Very homey but slightly out of date. We ordered a half carafe of house chianti and the stuffed mushroom appetizer. Meh. Not much flavor in the shrooms so we drenched them in lemon juice and salt. That helped. For entrees I ordered the chicken with lemon (and capers, I think?) and the hubby ordered the seafood pasta (in red sauce over linguine). The chicken was a bit dry and smallish, but I liked the lemon sauce. It came with a a side of pasta that was uninspired. Pennette with red sauce. Yawn. Looked like something from Old Country Buffet. The hubby enjoyed his seafood entree. We decided to go inside to the "bar" for our dessert and after dinner drinks. We regretted that decision as soon as we rounded the corner and saw the bar. Dingy. Linoleum. We wanted to run back to the patio, but we stuck it out because the owner was sitting there.

My girlfriend swore by this place so we went here to celebrate her __ birthday. Came in on a weeknight but surprisingly a few tables were occupied along with a large group in the back (most likely family or friends of the owner) having a good time. Good variety of items on the menu. I ordered the stuffed cannelloni and my gf ordered the lemon chicken. Both dishes were fantastic! The dishes were simple, yet tasty. The lemon chicken was my favorite of the two. Staff was very friendly and more than accommodating. They surprised my girlfriend and I when they brought out the tiramisu with a candle on it for her bday. That is why this place gets a 5! It's the little things that will get your customers to come back...well done. P.S. I believe they put out patio seating later in the evening...I saw this as I was driving by the other day.

Met friends for a weeknight dinner. Disappointed. Entrees were lacking and the tomatoes in my Caprese salad were translucent indicating that they were precut and in the fridge too long. The pizza and carafes of wine were the highlights. Stick to the pizza if you go.

marinella's was back to be being just adequate last week. i asked the server to ask the chef if he could make the chicken piccata crispy, like I had it last time. I told her that if he couldn't do it, that I would order something else. the food took a very long time to come, and there was beige, non crispy chicken piccata on my plate. I asked her about it, and she responded "oh, isn't that crispy enough?". well no, not without any bread crumbs it's not. I ate it, mostly because it took so long to get it. it was tasty, but waaay too salty.

Marinella's has great customer service. The staff were friendly and took plenty of time to go over menu options and made recommendations when asked. The food was presented well and tasted even better. I enjoyed the wine selection as well. Marinella Italian Restaurant is a hidden gem in my opinion.

We moved to Glen Ellyn about a year and a half ago and for one reason or another we always passed on this spot. After going back and forth, my husband and I decided to have dinner here last night. It smelled good when we walked in...like walking into an Italian home at dinner time. We waited for a while for someone to come back and seat us. When she did, we were told to follow her... And surprise!! We were led to a table outside without ever being asked which we preferred. Good thing I wore a jacket. Again... We waited a while for a server to greet us... But being that we were enjoying eachothers company and I wasn't starving, we weren't bothered by the long waits. We placed our order and while waiting for our first course, we were asked to move to a smaller table to accomodate a party of 4. I don't know about you, but I thought that was just plain rude. There were many other 4 tops occupied by 2 people...even a few that looked almost finished. Why not have them wait until a large table opens up? Or offer to seat them inside? Anyway... We got up and moved. Besides the rude table snafu and the long waits for everything, it was a good meal. The food was delicious! We had the Insalata Monte e mare, rotolo primevera and the cheese tortolini soup. If you are like us and keep passing it up for other spots... Stop!! Give it a shot. The food is worth your time. We will certainly be back.

Quaint, small restaurant in Glen Ellyn. Terrific food...the bread is warm and crusty, fresh salads and tasty pasta dishes. The decor and food reminded me of Lorica Italian restaurant which Praga replaced. Minimal, but quaint. Tiramisu was frozen and reheated, but not bad. Service was attentive, and prices were on the high side....check out restaurant.com for discounts.

This restaurant is just south of the tracks in Glen Ellyn. This restaurant is much bigger than it looks on the outside, inside. The food was very good and the service was friendly. The bread came to the table hot and fresh. The salads had a nice garlic tasting Italian dressing. I had pasta with calamari in a vodka sauce, which was very good. My husband had pasta as well with a red clam sauce which was also very tastey.

Marinella's is nestled in downtown Glen Ellyn. A great mom and pop Italian Restaurant. The seafood and specials are always tasty, my personal favorite is the Linguine Caprese, and the tomato vodka sauce over this dish is amazing. Ask for it over any of the pasta dishes. You can feel that the owners have put a lot of love in their recipes and are so proud of their establishment. Some of the walls display the many photos of families that have visited here to enjoy a meal. The patio is lit at night, offering a nice romantic atmosphere.

Since moving to this area I have eaten at Marinella's twice and intend to go back many times. Great food, price, and waitstaff. If the weather is nice sit on the patio.

Because downtown Glen Ellyn has such a strange system of one-way streets and three-way stops, I read about this restaurant online before I'd ever seen it in person. Let me tell you, I missed out on many excellent pasta dinners in that time! That's not to say that every dish hits the mark. Sometimes I've been less than impressed (mostly with appetizers and salads). But the waitstaff totally makes up for it by making you feel like your every wish is their command. Now that I think about it, though, when you're stuffing your face with the creamiest, dreamiest fettuccine Alfredo . . . what more could you really wish for?

Solid service, excellent traditional Italian food! Outdoor patio in the warm weather is nice, and indoors is comfortable, clean, and traditional. A must try restaurant!

They get an extra star for being one of the few places in Glen Ellyn with an outdoor patio (even if it does look on to a parking lot) and offering house wine by the carafe and half carafe. The food was pretty good. I had the Italian wedding soup and the chicken Vesuvio (very tender and you get half a chicken in a single order) and the husband had the spaghetti and meatballs, which he gets pretty much everywhere we go. I thought the meatballs were a little dry, but he liked it. I would definitely go back, the interior looks a little like a 1970s banquet hall, but the patio is nice for a warm evening.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
